Chad Aldeman takes a level-headed, close-up approach to the the NAEP arts results. Kevin Carey takes the macro.
Russo does a Rushomon on the topic.
I’m still waiting for a fact-driven and objective analysis from the usual suspects in the edu-stablishment who always jump on this stuff when it goes their way.
"More students are getting regular music instruction, but fewer say they’ve gone on a field trip to an art museum or art show. On the other hand, 80 percent say they paint or draw regularly in school."
It’s getting weird when the stuff you hear from academics and reporters has a strong political bias, and the stuff that bloggers write tends often (no, not always) to be fact-based and nuanced (OK, except for Diane Ravitch).
My community must not be represented in the NAEP sample, because there are lots of kids that have been going on field trips where I live. Almost all of them to Orlando (Does "It’s A Small World" count as music?). Their parents tell me it was the same as when they were kids.
Nuff said.
